Science is a Drag wins Anthem Award

We are absolutely gagged to announce that Science is a Drag has been awarded Silver in The 3rd Annual Anthem Awards Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion category!

This news makes Science is a Drag a multi award-winning drag show! It is an honour to be selected out of over 2,000 projects submitted from around the world for our work showcasing excellence in science communication by 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Canada.

Co-founder Dr. Samantha Yammine remarks, “We created Science is a Drag because we didn’t see a space for the true, liberating expression that drag offers in the science world. It’s almost sad for the combination of science and drag to be seen as innovative when it really just makes so much sense to us, but to be recognized internationally by the Anthem Awards among the likes of Misty Copeland, Selma Blair, Al Jazeera and Planned Parenthood (among many others) is really affirming that the work we do can make a difference.”

“The Anthem Awards were born out of the desire to amplify and celebrate the voices that are creating sustainable change and to inspire others to take action,” said Patricia McLoughlin, Anthem Awards General Manager. “In a year where so much is at stake, it is incredibly important to recognize impact work and celebrate the progress happening globally. Congratulations to all of this year’s Winners.”

Anthem Award winners are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, whose members include Nicholas Thompson, CEO, The Atlantic; Zarna Surti, Global Creative Director, Nike Purpose; Jennifer Lotito, President & Chief Operating Officer, (RED); Sarah Kate Ellis, President & CEO, GLAAD; Shayla Tait, Director of Philanthropy, The Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation and many more.

By amplifying the voices that spark global change, the Anthem Awards are defining a new benchmark for impactful work that inspires others to take action in their communities.

Launched by the Webby Awards, which are hailed as the “Internet’s highest honor” by The New York Times, the Anthem Awards honor the purpose & mission-driven work of people, companies and organizations worldwide. They were created in partnership with the Ad Council, Born This Way Foundation, Feeding America, GLAAD, Mozilla, NAACP, NRDC, WWF, and XQ.
